Extra Ordinary

I took a picture today. Through the window, into a house that's been empty for -- ten, fifteen years, maybe? And you see my visor, reflected, and the grand piano in the living room. The piano is the only piece of furniture that remains. But now there's a woman, to our left. I can't explain this. You see her, too, right? It's not just me?

Update: What is wrong with you people? If you think you're coming to my slumber party, think again.

I was listening to Lou at the time. Halloween Parade. Cross my heart.

  1. Can't make out what's on the left. Looks like a human-sized black cat is also there. Also seems to be a ghost on the right.

  2. I'm sorry about Lou. I see your hand on the left, holding the camera, and the woman is you. And no kitties.

  3. Woman in black, legs crossed, one arm resting on lap.

  4. Yes, I see it, but I'm pretty sure it's your fingers looking like limbs, and your sunglasses looking like a black dress. Kinda cool.

  5. Just one more thing I'm no good at, seeing ghosts. Grrrrrr.

  6. I am sorry about Lou Reed...

    Just amazing picture, Karin!
I see on the left a top of one head and a sun visor cap... is maybe yours?

  7. I see something to the left, but what or who it is . . . .

Wonder if you had any idea what your pic would be when you took it. With the eucalyptus to the right, the reflections, the interior, the piano, it's evocative.

  8. Spooky! You'll have to go back at midnight, when she plays the piano.

I've lived in a house with a ghost. Previous owners had also noticed it, I found out later. But it's not the sort of thing you share if you're trying to sell a house, is it?

  9. I'd buy a house that had a ghost, but one of the pretty ghosts, like Cary Grant in Topper. Heard on NPR yesterday that something like 70 percent of Americans believe in ghosts.

I'm sad, too, Sonia. At least we still have Leonard Cohen.

  10. I don't clearly see the ghost, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. It just means I don't see it. The veil between life and death can be pretty thin sometimes.

I used to work for one of the really well known local orgs in town. While there I saw a ghost. Was surprised and asked the ED about the sighting. Long story short I was told I wasn't the first to notice/report the ghost.

  11. Yes, Karin, we atill have Leonard Cohen!

I agree with John, the reflections of the tree, the fence and the piano, are evocative and magical!

  12. I had to look - real hard - but I see her. Very cool. It's like those pictures that are all spots and you have to stare at them until an image appears. I just see spots. And, get a headache. This is cool though.

    Lou Reed. Another one gone.

  14. Margaret, is it a good ghost or a bad ghost?

  15. Spooky photo. Do you hear piano music coming from the house late at night? Someone playing Moonlight Sonata?
I'm sorry Lou is gone, too. Wonder what it's like walking on the wild side?

  16. Can't see the ghost, even with your diagram.

  17. Did you get a chill when you got the photo??? Did you hear Margaret's radio or iPod??? I believe in ghosts...I do...I do...!!!

  18. I hope they have someone to flush their toilets twice a month. That's one of my jobs. I'm a flusher for hire. If a place stays empty for too long little meeses come up theough the dried out toilet pipes from the sewer and leave their dooty all over.

  19. What are your rates? Keep in mind, this is a guest toilet in a lightly-used house.

  20. I thought of you today as I watched the documentary "Stories We Tell." The gist is that family members can live through the same events and have different interpretations - I believe that based on my own experience. I saw your "lady" and have been interested in how others interpreted the photo; it helps to believe in ghosts in the first place, which I do. I don't have a ghost but I would welcome a friendly overseer ~

  21. That is spooky! I saw her. I really did. Does that mean I can come to your slumber party? I'm sad about Lou too.

  22. The fact that the only furniture there is a grand piano is weird enough. Add a floating apparition to the mix and it is downright creepy. Have you figured out how to get in there yet?

    RIP Lou Reed...

Heroin, be the death of me.
It's my wife and it's my life
Because a mainer to my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off than dead

  23. Woowoo for sure.

Do I have a picture for you. Taken in a national park and no one can make out what the image is. Wonder if it's still on this iPad.
