Written Hard and Put Away Wet

As I've been woiking, woiking, woiking these past few weeks, I've got no words left in the tank. But since some of you were nice enough to ask for a Vandy picture, I snapped a couple today.

Talkin' bout my girl -- my girl, my girl.

  1. She is beautiful, K.... I can see why you chose her... That throw she gave u was pure love isn't it? The title definitely befits your feelings and I am sure hers as well...((HUGS))

  4. Don't know a thing about horses, but Vandy has the kind of eyes I would have fallen for. You must really love each other, all those throws and injuries. She's lovely.

  5. She looks like there is a lot going on in that head!

  6. That's so true; that brain is always clicking, though not necessarily to my benefit. As the trainer at our stables says, "She's one smart cookie."

  7. I'm terrified of horses. They are huge and could break any number of my bones in a nano-second, but they are such incredibly beautiful animals.

  8. I hope the woik cools off enough to allow you take Vandy for a jaunt in the hills. I suspect you both could use some fresh air and a change of scenery.

  9. Such sweet photos! And I'm glad you at least had enough words left for a good pun.

  10. Do you still ride her? If not, at what age (hers) did you stop?

  11. Just in case you didn't know, Eddie Kendrick is a B'ham boy!!! We have a wonderful memorial park in downtown park in his memory.

  13. Love the photos of Vandy. She is beautiful -- and in her eyes I see a sharp intelligence. She looks like One that likes to test the limits, particularly with her special person.

  14. It's a gift to be friends with a horse. I still miss Pandora and Brandy. Pandora most, even though I knew her earlier, because she and I were so close.

  15. We used to play "The Tempts" over and over, and do all the dances they did, and pretend we were them. There was usually some competition to be Eddie Kendrick.

  16. Vandy's BFF was a horse named Footlights. And Footlight's owner and I would hold a long ribbon between the two of us and take our two horses through their paces, around the ring -- extended trot and canter. Vandy and Footlights would be in lockstep, in perfect harmony. No matter that Footlights was a Saddlebred, and six inches taller than Vandy. They knew they were twins.

    (To PA, just recently.)

  17. Oh, be still my heart. What a gorgeous girl and I can see the glint of mischief in her eyes. Thanks for letting us meet her!

  19. Two words come to mind - beautiful and measured. I suspect were she someone's Aunty - she would not suffer fools gladly. What adventures you two have had.

  20. Looks like she's wondering what exactly you're doing with that flashy beast, and how she can make this posing nonsense benefit her. Pretty girl.

  21. Those eyes! I swear I can see her ornery side, but I suppose it's just that you prepped us for it.

Do you remember Peter Shaffer's masterful play Equus--1970s? It's tragic, but the godly majesty of horses is loud and clear. The Richard Burton movie version is worth watching.

More unequivocal is the poem PA and others (and
    I) have adored, Donald Hall's "Names of Horses."

  22. She has never suffered this fool gladly, that's for sure. I really like that poem, and am sorry I never got to name my horse, since I bought her already registered. Full name is Vandy's Top Rocket. Her dam was Bold Vegas Vandy, and her sire was out of Rocket Bar; both racers. But of course, by this time, she looks 100% Vandy to me.
