Newt is an acquired taste.
Give her time; she'll grow on you. I doubt anyone ever appreciated their very first sip of Dalmore 64 Trinitas.
And besides, as a purebred Sphynx, Newt may be worth a lot of money, but she's no cream puff. Apparently she survived another brush with death, because when she came to my door today her tail was stitched up from top to bottom. She's a pip, I tell you. And fearless. And beautiful.
Newt reminds me of this guy I knew when I was growing up. He was little. We were all little, but Chip was really little, half our size. He came from a family of big people, tall parents, and two older brothers who played football. I guess they had no more feet or inches left when it came to Chip.
Still, Chip was the kind of kid who always had his arm in a sling or a patch on his eye or his middle digit taped to one of those tongue depressors. He was a scrapper.
If anyone teased Chip, it was at their peril. Maybe he couldn't reach to punch a fellow in the jaw, still he could run full force and head-butt someone right in the gut.
I wonder where Chipper is today. Probably in charge of some multi-billion dollar corporation, or in prison, or both.

Had to google Dalmore 64... Never had it... Now Wild Turkey, yes and it put me on my azz... It took me awhile to like that breed of cat but I must say of all the breeds its the most laid back looking... I think it knows its intimidating ( in a good way) and is basking in it...
She looks just like a wet cat without the fur. But she has dignity, which is not something that can be said about wet cats. And I don't have $10,000+ to spend on a thimble of Dalmore so I guess I'll never know.
I've had The Dalmore 64, once. Truthfully, it was smooth and beautiful, but really, even if I'd won the entire Lotto last week, not gonna repeat it.
The cat...oh, lord, just not my cup of tea either. LOL on the scrappy part--she looks like she's survived a lot---then again, when you're bullied, like Chip, you learn to get in your licks.
In the second picture, Newt looks like a bronze statue. And if she's ugly, she's probably loyal, which is a whole lot better. Give her a nice saucer of cream to help her fill out those wrinkles.
She is a creature of impeccable charm. I prefer the dark skinned Sphynx to the scrotum-ee looking pale version. Once you go black you don't go back

Newt is beautiful, and looks he has lots of chutzpah. Your story or "evocation" of little Chip evoked memories of my own.

I think Newt's a cutie. I could maybe have a cat like this, as I'm mostly allergic to cat dander. Don't see much dander on Newt. I had a neighborhood friend sort of like Chip when I was a kid. He was teeny, and managed to do things like light the alter flowers on fire while on Acolyte duty (something I luckily never did).

Newt is a breed of cat I've never seen before. I'm still getting over the shock of its look. Reminds me of an armadillo. Very spooky eyes in that third photo.
I used to know a sphinx cat, he was pretty friendly and butt ugly! I really liked him. Chip sounds like he could have been in my family. We always had some type of injury!

That is the scariest looking cat I've ever seen!!! Maybe it's because I'm not a cat-person...but I may need a little more time to fully see her beautiful side ;)

So many people in the past to wonder about. I'm finding that Facebook and reunions help a little, though I blush to sound so network-y.
I wonder what Tommy would make of Newt. She looks like a creature in an animated film. She'd play something like a queen, her voice deep and authoritarian. She may not be pretty, in my beholding eye, but she demands respect.
Can't say that I appreciate Newt's beauty...and I certainly haven't indulged in Dalmore 64...but give me a Jameson's and a furry kitty on my lap and I'm a happy camper!!!
As for your elocution of Chip's story...there was a guy in my high school who was very short...I don't think he was even 5'...happened to be the Valedictorian at graduation and one of the nicest guys in our class...last I heard he's a professor in the mid west somewhere and grew to be over 6 feet...

Newt is 360 degrees beautiful. If I didn't fear she was micro-chipped, I might of made off with her. Then I've been known to take my empties with labels, and fill them back up again with generic brands.
I lack character but am not short on nerve.

I wouldn't choose to own a sphynx, but I do think they have charm and character. I had the opportunity to visit with one, once, and was surprised to find that he had peach fuzz all over his body. It was soft and he was warm and it was quite lovely. I gained a better appreciation for the breed after I got to know him a bit better. I would let Newt sit on my lap any time.
@Katie---no hair/fur does not equal no dander. Am sure this beauty sheds her own skin, which can still make you sneeze and itch.
The review is what it was. Then again, I was young, someone else was pouring and only later, did someone tell me what it was. I might appreciate it more now, but I'm with Chieftess, a cuppa Jameson or The Glenlivet, and I'm set. You can keep the furry kitty but I'll take a pup on my lap.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Newt. She's cuddly and sweet and very likable, but obviously you don't want to piss her off.
Your story made me think of a guy I went to high school with--a nice guy, very small, who won the state wrestling championship in the 105-pound category. I wondered what had happened to him so I did some web searching. World traveler? Ballet dancer? Bohemian painter? Well, no, a wrestling coach, not far from where we grew up.
Pardon if I spend a few weeks waiting for Newt to grow on me. Maybe it's the $%*&(@^ name. I don't know.
Chipper, I hope is kicking some serious butt somewhere.

I missed this post while I was abroad, so I'm happy to see your lovely photos of Newt and to hear that she's still alive, despite the attack on her tail. By what, I wonder? Hope those coyotes keep away. Newt is soft and warm, with a skin like chamois leather, and a very affectionate mien.
