Yes, a lot of the desolation (and it's coming fast and furious now) is all in the name of soccer. No, it's probably all in the name of some council members getting their names on some commemorative sign.

After the flooding here in September, locals have been crying to have the debris removed from creek and river beds. The DEP won't issue permits. They all have their heads stuffed up their (choose your anatomical part). Fix what ain't broke, and let that which needs actual help rot.

You know, it's not the entire Council that voted for this athletic field. It was a slight majority. Five people--five people who do not give a rat's behind for what their constituents want, for what the city has already sworn itself to (2006 Green City Plan, anyone?). These five people (one who is no longer on the council) made this decision when NO ONE ELSE WANTS IT.
They can be defeated. It ain't over 'til it's over and now that Tim Brick and Mary Barrie have discovered city staff's "misleading" tactics (I'm being nice) and it is a matter of public record, believe me, it really ain't over.

Sonia, the plans are roads, parking lots, soccer fields, a nature center to study the nature that's no longer there, and tree removal.
Susan, can't say for sure, but it looked like dirt is getting piled in areas to create raised fields. Anyway, there's lots of new desolation.
The county came but NOT 1 member of the city council attended??? Any more of this behavior & they'll give politicians a bad name.

Maybe the city council needs special invitations? The awards ceremony and voting was open to anyone who wanted to participate.
I think any one of them would have been welcomed, maybe some more than others. The King of the Rose Bowl would have enjoyed the tamales. I know he likes them.

I'm a bit confused. I thought these photos were taken on the east side? That's where the soil cleared out from behind the dam was trucked to Johnson field. Have things also changed on the west side where the soccer field plateau will be constructed? I don't walk over on that side much any more - too many people and frisbees. I always seem to get in the way of their throws. Though they're always polite and patient.
I was sorry to have missed the awards, but glad Mary Barrie was honored.
Can't imagine why they would want anything to change from that gorgeous scenery in your first photo...
What about the silt removal? Is that happening?
Yes, their scraping some areas and piling it up in others. I think they've done away with the idea of truck caravans, but I'm not sure. It's all very confusing.
The County has already done the interim clean-up, the results of which are visible. They dug pretty deep (I've never seen the dam this exposed). They also built new structures for people to access the dam itself. If you walk down below the dam you're probably at least 30 or 40 feet below the highest sediment level. I think that's how much they have to dig out.
They still have to do a full EIR before the major sediment removal project begins, and the EIR is underway. It'll take a year or so, I can't remember, maybe more. They've been surveying, and you can find the surveyors' orange posts along the eastern path right now, between the dam and JPL.
Ok, now you are just showing off with the photography stuff. Then again, if I could take pictures like that I would show off too. I am feeling very disgruntled about your having so many talents.
