To set the mood, scoot Mr. Haendel up to 5:50. (What? You find that excessively difficult? You can complain to the management, though they're generally out to lunch and unresponsive.)
Anyway, we're here to make a point. That LA County and the City of Pasadena are very busy these days turning this
Into that

The third and fourth images have a Monet-like quality. I feel an utter lack of eloquence on this subject, KB. It baffles me and saddens me completely.
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
too hideous. I can't believe anyone really wants this. they must be blind. and deaf. not that I want to bundle the cretons who did this in with the blind and deaf, who really don't deserve me throwing such rabid megalomaniacs into their sense filled worlds.
Great photos. Bummer situation.
Why? are they assuming another case of West Nile is gonna crop up? sheesh, leave well enough alone.
"Gone, going.
Gone, everything.
Gone, don’t give a damn.
Gone, be the birds, when they don’t wanna sing.
Gone, people, all awkward with their things,
Gone" ~ Jack Johnson
I was thinking the sex pistols "God Save the Queen" might be more appropriate
If you squint at the third photo, you can see two ducks.
Yes, a lot of the desolation (and it's coming fast and furious now) is all in the name of soccer. No, it's probably all in the name of some council members getting their names on some commemorative sign.
It's not GONE yet, guys! Don't despair - there is a real fight going on to Save Hahamongna and you can help!
Leave it to bureaucrats to "improve" everything.
After the flooding here in September, locals have been crying to have the debris removed from creek and river beds. The DEP won't issue permits. They all have their heads stuffed up their (choose your anatomical part). Fix what ain't broke, and let that which needs actual help rot.
Wonderful and powerful photos -- I'm sorry to hear they are continuing to pursue the building of soccer fields in this beautiful place.
Wait, wait... this isn't the sediment removal as part of flood management? This is for the soccer fields?!
It's so depressing. The photos are gorgeous. I agree with Shell: they look like Monets.
PA and I were both at the Arroyo Seco Foundation awards the other night. Guess who else was there?
Representatives from Michael Antonovich's office

NO ONE from Pasadena City council
You know, it's not the entire Council that voted for this athletic field. It was a slight majority. Five people--five people who do not give a rat's behind for what their constituents want, for what the city has already sworn itself to (2006 Green City Plan, anyone?). These five people (one who is no longer on the council) made this decision when NO ONE ELSE WANTS IT.
They can be defeated. It ain't over 'til it's over and now that Tim Brick and Mary Barrie have discovered city staff's "misleading" tactics (I'm being nice) and it is a matter of public record, believe me, it really ain't over.
Beautiful reflections pictures, Karin! Looks an impressionism painting!
I am afraid I did not understood well... that beautiful place will turning in a dirt road?
Sonia, the plans are roads, parking lots, soccer fields, a nature center to study the nature that's no longer there, and tree removal.
Susan, can't say for sure, but it looked like dirt is getting piled in areas to create raised fields. Anyway, there's lots of new desolation.
The county came but NOT 1 member of the city council attended??? Any more of this behavior & they'll give politicians a bad name.
Aren't I seeing a bit of Monet in your pics? Nice!
Glad you posted this and these. I remember earlier concern about Haha., and now I see why. "A picture is worth a thousand words." Think I could copyright that?
P.S. Sorry, Shell, I should have read before blabbing.
ARTISTRY alert!
Gggggoorgeous photos feed the soul.
Cafe, I don't know that the city council was invited. The awards are for people who have made efforts to protect the Arroyo over the last year.
It takes a real visionary to come up with a plan like that. Not.
Yuk, but love the Handel.
Petrea Burchard, that's (pâ tree uh * ber cherd)
Maybe the city council needs special invitations? The awards ceremony and voting was open to anyone who wanted to participate.
I think any one of them would have been welcomed, maybe some more than others. The King of the Rose Bowl would have enjoyed the tamales. I know he likes them.
You're right, Patrizzi, it is open to anyone. I'm mistaken. I think they would have been welcome.
I'm a bit confused. I thought these photos were taken on the east side? That's where the soil cleared out from behind the dam was trucked to Johnson field. Have things also changed on the west side where the soccer field plateau will be constructed? I don't walk over on that side much any more - too many people and frisbees. I always seem to get in the way of their throws. Though they're always polite and patient.
I was sorry to have missed the awards, but glad Mary Barrie was honored.
Can't imagine why they would want anything to change from that gorgeous scenery in your first photo...
What about the silt removal? Is that happening?
Yes, their scraping some areas and piling it up in others. I think they've done away with the idea of truck caravans, but I'm not sure. It's all very confusing.
The County has already done the interim clean-up, the results of which are visible. They dug pretty deep (I've never seen the dam this exposed). They also built new structures for people to access the dam itself. If you walk down below the dam you're probably at least 30 or 40 feet below the highest sediment level. I think that's how much they have to dig out.
They still have to do a full EIR before the major sediment removal project begins, and the EIR is underway. It'll take a year or so, I can't remember, maybe more. They've been surveying, and you can find the surveyors' orange posts along the eastern path right now, between the dam and JPL.
Ok, now you are just showing off with the photography stuff. Then again, if I could take pictures like that I would show off too. I am feeling very disgruntled about your having so many talents.
If they could distract you from my swapping of their for they're, then I'm happy.
Somebody (plural) should be sh.. ... JAILED ... for this.
Such a tragedy.
On a much smaller scale, I'm still mourning the 2 pine trees right outside our door/bedroom window that the ASSociation had cut down because they were cracking the TENNIS COURT!
Wonderful photos Hiker...and I agree...very Monet-esque!!!
