Walking Bobby

"That's a handsome dog you've got there. What's his name?"

"His name is Bobby. Are you from around here?"

"No, we're interlopers. We thought you might invite us over for dinner. Have you lived here long?"

"All my life. Let me tell you something...what was I going to say... it will come to me ... Oh yes, speaking of dinner, my father was married to Julia Child's mother. Did you know Julie Child grew up in Pasadena?"

"So I've heard. You must have had some really good dinners."

"Oh, yes. But let me tell you something."

"What's that?"

"My wife was a better cook."

quite a tale he has.

never heard Julia's mother married more than once---unless he's claiming to be John III who died in 2002.

but, he would not be the first interloper with a tall tale. ;-)

yes, some of the Westridge girls know Julia's history since she was one of us.

Well, if that sounds wrong, I probably switched father with mother. But I was busy petting Bobby.

Bobby would distract me, too.

Although I heard most of the conversation "live," I laughed reading your transcription.

At one point, one of our group said, "How old is he?", obviously referring to Bobby. I walked over to her and whispered, "He looks about 89 to me."

Hello from beautiful uptown Reno! I love this town.

Miss me?

Now that's a faithful husband. Although I guess just because Julia was a good cook doesn't mean her mother was, I suppose.

Bobby looks like a nice guy. Sounds like an interesting conversation.

Lucky dining companion!
Desperately, PA, desperately--

I loved the way the man loved his dog. Even more, I loved the way the dog loved his man.

(PA, we sent out a search and rescue days ago. When they find you, tell Mr. V to be kind.)

Haha! Great story! And always wonderful to see such closeness between a pet and their person. Bobby looks like such a good boy.

That guy was a hoot and Bobby was a very sweet and patient dog. Too bad you couldn't wrangle a dinner invite for us though.

Julia died in Pasadena too. At the end, she went home.

I envy anyone who has a dog that will take a walk. With Ranger it's really just a contest, that's why we always ride the bike.

Love re-living our visit with Bobby and his person. You got great photos of the two of them. Thanks for sharing this special meeting. Do you suppose if we went back we'd find them again? I am up for it.

It's so good to have a dog to walk... I miss so much my walking with Flora...

Love the street so neat with beautiful trees and lawn well done.
It's Pasadena? I enlarged the last photo and I read "San Marino"...

Bobby makes for a good story.

Sonia, you're right! It's hard to tell where one starts and the other ends, but the sign is a dead giveaway. And I know what you mean, I drove by a doggy daycare yesterday just so I could see a boxer.

Hi Judy! Almost seems that way, doesn't it? Katie & Ron, it was worth asking.

I miss you, PA, but I'm not coming to Reno to get you.

Actually, maybe I will. It would be a nice drive.

Karin, you can come see Boz any time. He may not be a purebred but he likes you.

If ya'll had left it up to me, we'd have had dinner with Bobby and his human. I think this encounter was the highlight of our jaunt around the block. Now that I think about it, he was related to Julia.......... that might have been a fine dinner.....

Sonia: Don't believe what you read. It's Pasadena.

I'll bet living with such an owner, Bobby has many a tale or two more to relate, would that he could.

Aren't people fascinating?

Love how you recounted this. The pictures are darned fine, too.

I loved this little tale. Funny to learn your blogger pals were part of the story.

I wonder what Bobby's human was listening to on those headphones.

PA, will you have a party upon your return?

Hi Karin,
Just dropping by to wish you a pleasant weekend!

Mister Earl said...

Susan: I was also wondering what he was listening to. Classical? Jazz? Books on tape? Julia Childs show? I almost asked him.

Hmmmm...next thing you know, Mrs. Robinson will turn out to be related to Bobby and Julia...after all, The Graduate was supposed to be a true story of a family in Pasadena!!!
