Clocker's Corner

A couple of us met for an ad hoc breakfast at Santa Anita to watch the big boys and girls run.

"Shouldn't we be at home, writing?"

"Oh, I suppose."

"But then again, we need the inspiration."

"Monthly, at least."

"Did I tell you about the time I tried out as an exercise rider?"

"Monthly, at least."

"And the time I..."

"Have another sausage."

Although you obviously left plenty of room to read between the lines...No Comment.

(if only "Zorro" was a black horse)

You know I've always wanted to photograph horses. Not RIDE one mind you, just a few up close snaps, NOT from behind mind you. Maybe my next trip???

I wanna do that one of these days. What time does it open, and what days?

WV: pettem. I guess you're not close enough to pettem.

I like the way that shot turned out. Horsey in yellow socks.

Hey, where are the big girls?

They aren't yellow socks, they are leg-warmers. It's an '80's aerobics horse.

Sure, Virg. Great idea. Earl, here's the link: http://www.santaanita.com/content/dining-santa-anita-park. Remember to enter off Baldwin, next to the mall.

Petrea, next time feet, just feet.

You are very wise, Van Helsing, for a man who has lived but one lifetime. (God, I've always wanted to use that line.)

Carolynn, I knew you'd understand.

Any insider info you want to past on? The trifecta winners???

Looks like a funner morning than writing would have been.

No apologies at the track.

Yikes, it's PJ not DR. I'm stuck on his screen while he figures out Georgia state income tax...just as soon as he gets his degreee from MIT.

Horses, coffee and toast; three of my favorite things. Sounds like you all had a good time

They also have free fridays beginning at the end of March, with $2 beer, hot dogs, and soft drinks.

Ohhhh darn! Another hot dog to try and I'm stuck up here!!!

Bren, funner and funner.

DR/PJ, I hear ya!

PA, add sausage and eggs, and that would be the Bob Baffert, as you know. And it's funny to order a Bob Baffert when he's standing ten feet away. Jean, it is better than good.

Chieftess, you'll come down when Virg is here.

Earl, I didn't look at the link. but beer for breakfast? Knowing racing folk, that's a possibility.

I'll let you all know when the Virg eagle lands, so we can plan to meet.

What a great way to start a day. I'm not sure I envy your hikes, but I envy you this. Nice colorful shots too!

Great horse shots, looks like some interesting riders out there. Can't beat the views from there, especially on a glorious Californian morning.

(Glad the get-together inspired you to write so eloquently.)

I knew I'd get a taste of Clocker's here. That top photo is gorgeous. Next time I'm in.

We owned a thoroughbred once. Thought we'd like to be horse people. And that we could make money. So we got audited by the IRS, didn't make any money, and the tracks were too far away to visit regularly. And then we sold, to avoid more auditing. Everything's more fun than the IRS, even a colonoscopy.

WV: sored. Like you get the first time you ride after a really long time.
