Breaking News

“Angelina Jolie announced she is not going to adopt another baby. The news ricocheted around the world…”
The Daily Beast

The news that I’m not adopting a baby hasn’t travelled far, but then I haven’t told even my closest friends. In fact, there’s a whole lot of stuff I’m not going to do that nobody knows about. And I'm keeping it that way, else someone may try to stop me.

The list of what I’m not going to do is extensive, practically endless, possibly unprecedented. Whatever you think you’re not going to do in this life, I just know I’m not going to do so much more.

And I’m not bragging.

For example, I’m not even going to tell you what I’m not doing now. I believe in a private life.

Well, I've already adopted the baby. But I will never own a horse. Or even ride one again, I suspect.

We all must even one another out.

Linda said...

I'm not adopting either.....just thought you might want to know that trivia.

Laurie said...

I can't believe you didn't tell me about this.

I'm getting a degree so as not to follow a career.

If I die with my boots on, I don't pay back the loans.

altadenahiker said...

Oh Laurie, I knew, finding out this way, would hurt your feelings.

Petrea said...

Fine, be that way. But I will state openly right here that I am not going to do some things that you're not not going to do. I know you'll say I'm competitive but I just don't play my cards as close to the chest as you do.

I come here for the paradigm shifts.
And to see when you'll be on Twitter

TheChieftess said...

Damn!!! And I've been waiting with baited breath to see what needy child Angelina was going to adopt next!!!

And I can't believe you won't share what you won't do either...this is a terribly disappointing post!!!!

Mister Earl said...

I am not doing so many things, and it's good that I'm not. And I'm doing so many other things. But I'm not going to tell you what I'm going to do and not going to do.

I blame faceless government meddling.

i'm not going to comment on this. or adopt an alpaca.

Mister Earl said...

It's not true what they're saying.

dbdubya said...

About 10 years ago, when my parents were about 80, we had a family dinner. My Mexican brother and Samoan brother and their families were all there along with my adult children and me. After dinner, my dad made a very important announcement. "Well, we just wanted to let you all know that your mother and I have made a very important decision." We anxiously awaited the big announcement, not knowing what it was. "We've decided we're not going to have any more children."

I was relieved.

Susan C said...

In other breaking news, Jennifer Aniston is also not adopting.

TheChieftess said...

But...Brad and Jen are still seeing each other..Angelina hasn't mentioned anything to the media about not caring about that...

altadenahiker said...

Dammit people, stay on topic. This is about me and how I refuse to talk about myself.

WV: Rangu. Either a cheap Italian dish, or some Haiku thing I don't understand.

Mister Earl said...

But we already knew that, Karin. We're easily bored and need to entertain ourselves.

Petrea said...

Let's refuse to talk about me.

Oh. Wait. We were already doing that.

altadenahiker said...

Quiet, Petrea. Give Earl a moment -- he was entertaining himself.

Petrea said...

(sorry)

Mister Earl said...

OK, I'm done.

Jean Spitzer said...

You all are nattering nabobs of negativity.

dbdubya said...

Jean, I would say they are more like an efite corps of impudent snobs. (one of my favorites quotes of all time - Spiro Agnew referring to the news media)

Mister Earl said...

What do you mean "they" white man?

"Agnew was known for his scathing criticisms of political opponents, especially journalists and anti-war activists. He attacked his adversaries with relish, hurling unusual, often alliterative epithets—some of which were coined by White House speechwriters William Safire and Pat Buchanan—including "pusillanimous pussyfooters", "nattering nabobs of negativism" (written by Safire), and "hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history". He once described a group of opponents as "an effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals."

dbdubya said...

That may be true, Mr. E, but I still like the quote, and as I recall, he was referring to the news media.

TheChieftess said...

All right boys, that's enough...after all, this IS Karin's blog and the topic today is supposed to be about her...

(psssst...Karin...is that what you wanted me to say???)

dbdubya said...
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
altadenahiker said...

Children, childen -- Eyes on the board. Tink, tink, tink. Let's not forget, this all about me.

altadenahiker said...

I did not, not, not mean to take DB's comment off; I meant to correct my spelling of children.

Mister Earl said...

Here's something I'm not going to do, Karin: I'm not going to use your blog to discuss Spiro Agnew.

WV: firdlic. Sounds Norwegian, but might be Danish.

dbdubya said...

That's alright, Karin. We'll only talk about you. Mr. E - no more political talk. Got it? It's all about Karin.

So Karin, why not adopt a baby?

Margaret said...

Unlike you, I'm doing everything. Always. And again. I just love life.

Mister Earl said...

You know that Karin? She never DOES anything!

WV. Flend. Please don't unflend me.

TheChieftess said...

Is this an audition for the theater of the absurd???

dbdubya said...

No, Chieftess. It's a theater of Karin. It's all about Karin.

WV: nosis - what an older brother tells his sister.

altadenahiker said...

Good lord, I leave this place for an hour or two and my stage is a mess. And I tripped over Margaret's yarn.

Anonymous said...

Oh, she’s brilliant.

D.

wv: emastor

Brenda's Arizona said...

I already forgot - what is it we weren't talking about?

WV: Micali.
Karin, that would be a lovely name for an adopted child.

Mister Earl said...

It's not an audition, Chieftess. This is the play.

"And though she feels as if she's in a play... She is anyway..."

WV: ouncier. "The girls were in the powder room for fifteen minutes, arguing about who was ouncier."

Birdman said...

Thanks!

Trish said...

well, well, well. I wander off for a day and see what happens?

you're NOT talking about me! ;-)

carry on!

wv: menause...like menopause, but you just can't hold that "p". gawd, how DO they know?

The Real Breaking News I'll be waiting for will be:

Altadena's Hiker has just announced she is not going to have a baby! The news ricocheted around the world"

I may have to wait a while for that one.

I agree with Homemade Security.

Susan Campisi said...

Seems I missed a very entertaining day here while I was out seeing, ummm, well, I'm not going to tell you what I was seeing or doing or not seeing or not doing.

And now I'm going to tweet that on my new Twitter account. Or not.

Mister Earl said...

CO: I think she did tell us that. When are you going to have a litter of pups?

Virginia said...

HEll, I'm having to move and might be in downtown B'ham. Top that. Life goes on and I'm trying to flow like a river.

Is the the new Facebook theme?

Lordie, Hiker, are you trying to be your own counterculture? It's all about telling all. (But I think you knew that).

altadenahiker said...

Glad to see on the lord's day we have a little more decorum. I'm still picking up all the popcorn from yesterday.

Wake me up if I don't win a Grammy.

TheChieftess said...

Time to wake up Hiker!!!

dbdubya said...

You didn't win anything, Hiker. So go ahead and adopt a baby. That will make up for your disappointment.

Trish said...

didn't win Hiker, then again, neither did I. ah, that's ok, I slept well last night.

so are you, like Katie Holmes and her couch jumping hubby, going to have another baby? Wait for it, because, the first child wants you to have one and you just can't say no to her?

uuuh, yeah. good reason to have another kid, cuz you can't say no to the first one...

onward people, onward.
ahem.

The list is long of things Miss Janey is not going to do. She's not gonna write it.

Paula said...

A baby what? There are a lot of things that I've said I wouldn't do - and then found myself doing them anyway so I don't mind saying that I'm not ever, ever going to say never. The next day I would have a baby on my doorstep. And I would want to keep it.

altadenahiker said...

That WV is a hall of famer, Paula.

Ok, so looks like I have three sitters for little Micali as soon as I don't adopt him.

WV: Volyporm. Naked volleyball.

Paula said...

Well, if those three fall through, don't call me, I'll call you.

wv pukeen
This one makes feel queasy.

Carolynn said...

She collects babies like some people collect socks. So, I suppose, in light of that, this is news. I wonder if she knows they eventually grow up...

Thank you for your kind words over at my place today.

TheChieftess said...

If Micali was a puppy, I'd be more inclined to be a sitter....but you'd have to come to Mammoth to drop him (or her) off...

TheChieftess said...

Hmmmm....if you were a teenager with Angelina and Brad as your parents...what could you possibly do to embarrass your parents???
