I'm toast

As a kid, there were some things we saw coming. For example, we knew computers would one day take over the world. And we hoped this thing called a laser would someday end up in our dentist's hand. What about the facilimile machine -- we could barely get our arms around the concept. But never did my dad or a teacher say, "Mark my words Altadenhiker, you will live to see the day a toaster can cook an egg." But that day is here. Just think: Slide in a piece of toast and hard boil an egg all in the same machine, at the same time! Or fry it sunny side up, for God's sake. And it will warm a sausage! When I heard about this miracle, well, of course, anyone could understand, I just had to...It arrived today. I completely forgot to stress over having that WAMU CD.

  1. I'm curious to see how well these things work.

I wait for pics of the final result.

  2. Okay, you're making me want to do some online appliance shopping...

  4. OMG - you weren't kidding about the toast and egg appliance. I'll have mine sunny side up please.

My daughter was very impressed with a counter top frozen pizza baker that her boyfriend's family bought. I was horrified. Don't even get me started on how many things are wrong with the whole concept of that appliance.

  5. Amazon has done me wrong -- they now have free shipping -- beware Laurie. I'll let y'all know how it works, but first I have to read the manual. Imagine, a manual to cook an egg. And Susan, maybe we will get you started on the evils of the pizza oven, just for the fun of it.

  6. My daughter is taking a rare long afternoon nap.

And I'm trying to convince myself NOT to purchase this:

I mean, it's gotta be better than my old 90s breadmaker and now that I'm baking gluten-free breads I really need a good breadmaker. Right? Right?

Why do I feel like an alcoholic telling my friend, "No really, a little wine isn't a big deal..."

  8. Oh Laurie, I like it. The worst thing about Amazon (apart from the instant availability) is the comment part. "The best, the brightest, the fastest, the tastiest." Addicts such as ourselves say, Yes Yes Yes. (By the way LO, I believe you're a bit of an enabler.)

  9. Life Observer, you crack me up. I'll keep my eyes peeled but can't promise any warranties...

I'm so glad I found you, my tribeswoman, Miss Altadenahiker. We could spend long days searching Cooking.com together and finding recipes that use both a nut grinder AND a micro food processor...

    :-)

  10. Oh, Laurie, we'd go on one expensive binge, wake up the next morning and ask, where did this digital dog dish come from?

  11. It's a good thing you posted a photo, because it would have been hard for me to believe such a thing exists if you hadn't. I too await the results of the initial tastings...

  12. Is it easy to clean?
I bought a battery operated weed wacker I saw advertised in a info commercial (somewhere in the wee hours). Big claims and I said "count me in" It works, sure enough. This is the problem, the battery charge is good for about 20 minutes. Takes six hours to recharge. Not good. My yard now qualifies for weed abatement fines.

  13. We're starting the impulse appliance purchase club. You belong. Well, it toasts anyway. I'll probably never get around to reading the manual and making that egg.
